Sebastian and Turpen with Low Rounds for Men's Golf in Rd 1 at Augsburg

HAM LAKE, Minn. (Sept. 2, 2023) - Freshman Cooper Sebastian and sophomore Matthew Turpen helped lead the way for the Buena Vista men's golf team with rounds of 78 as BVU opened its fall schedule on Saturday during the opening round of the Augsburg University Invitational held at Majestic Oaks GC.

Turpen had a pair of birdies on the back nine to go along with one on the par-3 eighth hole. Sebastian's lone birdie of the round came on the par-4 fifth hole. The duo is tied for 22nd overall but are only four strokes out of the top-15. Sophomores Landon Ray and Mason Laven each birdied the par-5 first hole en route to rounds of 80 and 81, respectively. Sophomore Jordan Greenwood rounded out the line-up with an 86, including a birdie on the par-4 18th hole.

Buena Vista sits eighth as a team following its round of 317. The Beavers sit three shots behind the University of Manitoba and 12 behind sixth-place Bethel University. Augsburg (292) is the overall team leader and sits seven shots clear of second-place Macalester College.

The final round is set for Sunday morning with tee-times beginning at 8 a.m.
