STORM LAKE, Iowa (Feb. 3, 2023) - Simpson College was aided by bonus points in seven of its victories on Friday night as the Storm defeated the Buena Vista wrestling team in the annual Ballroom Brawl held inside of the BVU Siebens Forum Grand Ballroom.

The Storm picked up a fall at 125 pounds to claim an early 6-0 advantage before Nolan Nguyen put the Beavers on the board with a thrilling come from behind 15-9 decision at 133 pounds to make it 6-3. Simpson then won by forfeit at 141 pounds and then posted consecutive major decisions to go in front 20-3.

Junior Max Mashek put the crowd on its feet at 165 pounds as he pinned Trey Kellow with just two seconds remaining in the first period for his sixth fall of the year. Simpson won by decision at 174 pounds before a major decision, pin and forfeit closed out the dual.

Simpson improves to 6-5 (2-4 A-R-C) while the Beavers dip to 3-12 (1-6 A-R-C).

Seniors Brandon Foster (125), Axel Hernandez (141) and Bruce (174) were all recognized prior to the dual as part of Senior Night festivities.

Buena Vista will close out its conference schedule next Friday, Feb. 10, by hosting No. 11 Luther College at 7 p.m.
