STORM LAKE, Iowa (Dec. 9, 2023) - The Buena Vista wrestling team jumped out to the early lead on Saturday against visiting Saint John's University, but the Johnnies would rally over the final five matches to hand the Beavers a tough 37-15 setback inside of the Lamberti Rec Center.
Tyler Japp got BVU going early with a strong technical fall at 125 pounds before Nolan Nguyen followed with a major decision to make it 9-0 Beavers. The Johnnies got on the board after winning by forfeit at 141 pounds. BVU fifth-year Axel Hernandez, who is ranked third in the region, took control of his match at 149 pounds and extended the BVU lead to 15-6 with a second period fall. He improves his overall season record to 10-1.
