Wrestling Suffers 45-9 Road Loss at #15 Coe College

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Dec. 6, 2023) - The Buena Vista men's wrestling team was back in action Wednesday night by traveling to #15 Coe College for an American Rivers Conference dual with the Kohawks, but the shorthanded Beavers came up short, 45-9.

Nolan Nguyen gave the Beavers an early 6-5 advantage with a pin over Bryce Parke at 133 pounds midway through the third period. It's his fifth win of the season and his first by fall. After the Kohawks regained the lead with BVU being open at 141 pounds, fifth-year Axel Hernandez pulled out a thrilling 8-5 victory in sudden victory over Tyler Koedam that pushed his season record to 9-1 overall.

The Kohawks (2-0, 2-0 A-R-C) would go on and take advantage of two more open weights by BVU and would win its final four matches by bonus points.

Buena Vista is now 1-3 overall (0-2 A-R-C) and is set to host Saint John's University on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. The match will take place inside of the Lamberti Rec Center on the BVU campus.
