ORANGE CITY, Iowa (Nov. 9, 2023) - The Buena Vista wrestling team began its dual schedule on Thursday night with a non-conference match-up at Northwestern College, but it was the Red Raiders taking the final five matches to win, 32-12. 

Sophomore Tyler Japp gave BVU the early lead after a 21-5 technical fall victory midway through the third period. Fifth-year 149-pounder Axel Hernandez improved to 5-0 on the year with a 7-1 decision which brought the Beavers within 10-8. Freshman Luke Hageman made it back-to-back victories for BVU with a commanding 11-3 major decision that put the team back in front 12-10. Hageman is now 4-2 overall.

Down the stretch, it wound up being all Red Raiders, as the home team would win consecutive decisions before rolling to bonus points in the final three weights to secure the win.

Buena Vista (0-1) returns to the mat on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Luther College Open in Decorah, Iowa. Action is set to begin at 11 a.m.
