STORM LAKE, Iowa (Nov. 19, 2023) - The Buena Vista men's basketball team scored the first 15 points of its home opener against Northland College on Sunday afternoon and never looked back en route to an 85-58 non-conference victory.
The Beavers shot 48.5 percent from the field in the opening half while holding the Lumberjacks to only 24 percent and led 47-22 at the half. BVU cooled significantly off over the final 20 minutes, shooting only 30.0 percent from the field, despite adding six more makes from long range. For the game, the Beavers struggled from the free-throw line by sinking only 18-of-27 attempts.
Senior Zane Neubaum led all scorers in the game with 17 points and added seven rebounds for Buena Vista with fellow senior Gunner Reed adding 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists. A freshman trio of Carter Sievers, Keaton Flaherty and Koleson Evans all came off the bench to score eight points with Sievers also dishing out three assists.
