LINCOLN, Neb. (Dec. 17,, 2022) - The Buena Vista wrestling was in action three times on Saturday during the Prairie Wolf Duals, hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan, and closed out the day going 1-2 overall.

Brandon Foster (125),
Axel Hernandez (141) and
Garret Bruce (174) all finished the day with perfect 3-0 records. The Beavers fell 26-25 to the Milwaukee School of Engineering due to tiebreaker criteria after the two teams were tied 25-25 after 10 matches. BVU picked up a commanding 35-21 triumph over Westminster before Cornell pulled away from BVU late en route to a 37-14 victory.
Foster picked up a narrow 4-3 decision in his match against Cornell while winning by forfeit in the other two. Hernandez picked up a pair of technical falls and one major decision victory while Bruce was victorious by an 8-4 decision, by forfeit and by fall. Foster and Hernandez remained tied for the team lead with 13 wins on the year with Bruce close behind with nine.
Against MSOE, the Beavers won by forfeit at the first two weights and led 16-0 following Hernandez's major decision. MSOEÂ then closed the gap to 16-9 before
Max Mashek won by fall at 165 pounds and Bruce by decision at 174 to extend the lead to 25-9.  MSOE closed the dual with three straight wins, including a pin and forfeit to wrap things up and pull even at 25-25. The Beavers would ultimately drop the dual on the basis of criteria.
The Beavers were victorious at six weighs against Westminster, building a 16-0 lead through 141 pounds. After Westminster cut the deficit to 16-9 following back-to-back wins,
Jesse Rodriguez then padded the BVU lead at 22-9 with his first period fall at 165 pounds. Bruce, along with
Jonah Siebert, won by forfeit at 174 and 184, respectively to secure the team's first win of the year.
Against Cornell to round out the day, the Beavers again started strong by getting wins from Foster and Hernandez for an 8-4 lead. The Rams, however, then picked up bonus point wins over the next three weights to build a 20-8 lead. Bruce would pick up a pin in the final 20 seconds of his 174-pound match that brought BVU within 20-14, but that was as close as the team would get. Cornell (5-2) went on to pick up three more bonus point victories to close out the dual.
Buena Vista is now 1-5 overall and is off until Jan. 7 when it takes part in the Itasca Duals at Grand Rapids, Minn.
