WAVERLY, Iowa - The Buena Vista women's basketball team traveled to No. 13 Wartburg College on Friday night for a rescheduled American Rivers Conference contest, but it was the Knights breaking open a four-point halftime contest en route to a 79-50 victory over the Beavers.
Mallory McCall led BVU with her second double-double of the year, scoring 12 points and grabbing a career-best 11 rebounds.
Vanessa Hamlett also reached double digits with 11 points.
BVU shot 30 percent from the field overall and was 4-of-22 from long range and 10-of-17 from the charity stripe.
The Knights led by 10 at 20-10 after one quarter before BVU began to find its shooting touch by going 7-of-17 in the second quarter from the field and outscore Wartburg 17-11 to trail 31-27 heading into the break. It was all Knights in the third after they shot 53 percent from the field while the Beavers made just two field goals in the period and found themselves down 56-34 through three quarters.
After scoring 25 points in the third, Wartburg tacked on 23 more in the fourth en rout to the 29-point cushion.
Sarah Faber led three Wartburg players in double figures with a game-high 18 points as the Knights improved to 14-2 overall (7-1 A-R-C).
The Beavers will have a quick turnaround as they get set to travel to Loras College for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off on Saturday afternoon.
