STORM LAKE, Iowa (April 11, 2021) - The Buena Vista baseball team let a 6-2 lead slip away in game one of Sunday's doubleheader against Luther College and then came up short again in game two with a 6-3 loss as the Norse completed the four-game series sweep of the Beavers.
BVU scored five runs in the second inning of the opener to build the early four-run lead. Sophomore
Jordan Mathewson drove in two of those runs with a triple and then scored when his brother Caden followed with a double. Luther began to chip away at the lead with two runs in the third before breaking through with four runs in the fourth. BVU was unable to push across a run in the final five innings while the Norse add an insurance in the seventh.

Caden Mathewson added two hits and walked once. Senior
Tyler Stoltze was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Dalton Glenn (2-4) made the start and pitched 3.1 innings and was charged with seven runs and nine hits.
Luther (15-5, 11-1 A-R-C)Â scored first in the finale with an RBI groundout in the first inning before
Grant Oseka doubled home a run in the second to pull BVU even. The Norse then pushed across a pair of runs in the fifth to chace BVU starter
Michael Demers who was making his first start of the year.
Caden Mathweson got one of those runs back in the seventh with an RBI groundout but the Norse responded in the eighth with a run-scoring single and a two-run double to break open a 6-2 lead. The Beavers tried to rally late but were only able to scratch across one run in the ninth.
BVU had four doubles in the contest and held a slim 8-7 edge over Luther in totalhits.Â
Caden Mathewson had one of those two-baggers and led the way with three hits overall.Â
Jordan Mathewson followed with two base knocks as the duo were the only ones with multi-hit games.
Demers pitched 4.2 innings and was charged with three runs (two earned) on four hits. He walked three and struck out two.Â
Aiden Brock pitched a pair of scoreless frames before Luther got to him for three runs in the eighth. He finished with four strikeouts and two walks.Â
Garrett Anderson walked a batter and struck out one over 1.1 innings of work.
Buena Vista is now 8-13 overall (6-10 A-R-C) and will look to get back into the win column next weekend when it plays at Wartburg College for a four-game series. First pitch for Saturday's opener is set for 2:00 p.m.
