WAVERLY, Iowa (April 17, 2021) -
Caden Mathewson with a three-run triple in the seventh to help send the Buena Vista baseball team to a 4-1 victory in game one at Wartburg on Saturday afternoon before the Knights took came two 13-3 (8 inn.) to earn the doubleheader split.
BVU loaded the bases with no outs before Mathewson, who finished 2-for-3, connected for his second career triple and registered his first career 3-RBI game. He's now driven in seven runs over the last four games. Senior
Nick Henrichs drove home the game's first run with a single in the third to finish 1-for-4 in his first game since March 21.Â
Tyler Tennyson was tough on the mound once again for the Beavers, tossing six strong innings, scattering six hits and allowing just one run while striking out five.Â
Calvin Harris came on to pitch a scoreless seventh for his fourth save of the year as BVU snapped a season-long eight game losing streak.
BVU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in game two with a sacrifice fly from Tennyson in the first. Wartburg then scored three times in the second to take a 3-1 lead and never trailed again. The Beavers made it 3-2 in the third when Henrichs scored on a wild pitch after reaching on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.
The Knights then took control with four runs in the bottom half to make it 7-2 before adding five runs in the eighth to end the contest.Â
Caden Mathewson drove home BVU's final run in the seventh on a fielder's choice.
Mathewson added two more hits in the contest and takes over the team lead with a .408 average on the year. Tennyson also finished 2-for-3.
The two teams combined for 19 hits in the game but only two that went for extra-bases.

Mason Gehling suffered the loss for the Beavers after allowing seven runs and nine hits over 2.1 innings. Â
Buena Vista is now 9-14 overall (7-11 A-R-C) and will look to win the series with a doubleheader sweep on Sunday. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 p.m.
