STORM LAKE, Iowa (March 17, 2021) - The Buena Vista volleyball team has been on the road for three straight matches and now returns home tonight to host Simpson College in what will be the first of two home outings this week to wrap up the COVID-19 shortened season.

Buena Vista has won five of the last six matches played between the two programs...each of the last three contests have gone five sets with BVU having won the last two...since 2003, the Storm hold a 13-10 advantage, including an eight-match win streak from 2007-13.

ABOUT THE STORM
Simpson got the season off on a strong note by knocking off preseason favorite Dubuque in five sets on the road in the opener. Following that was four straight losses before the team got back on track with a win over Luther on March 13. Two of the team's setbacks during the four-game skid came in five sets. The Storm are currently last in the A-R-C in attack percentage at .102 but have stayed close in matches by holding opponents to a .173 clip. The team averages 10.5 kills/set and is led by Allyson Rose, who's sixth in the league in attack percentage at .288 while averaging 1.56 kills/set. Juni Kamryn is turning in a team-high 2.54 kills/set with Lexie Parks right behind at 2.48. Both are also tough on the defensive side of the net with seven assisted blocks apiece. Marissa Salber ranks fifth in the A-R-C in assists/set (6.23). The Storm have not won more than two conference matches in any season since 2011.
ABOUT BUENA VISTA
The Beavers are looking to get back into the win column after dropping four straight matches after a solid 2-0 start. Two of the four losses came in four sets after BVU claimed the opening set in each of those two. Junior Sydney McLaren has helped lead the way and ranks sixth in the A-R-C in kills/set at 3.24. Freshman Rachel Brockney is next at 2.10. As a team, BVU is hittiing just .149 overall which is sixth in the league. Sophomore Taylor Wedemeyer is among the top-4 in the conference in assists/set at 8.90. Defensively, Jade Hays is turning in 4.48 digs per set which is seventh among the league leaders. McLaren, along with Taylor Caves, have seven total blocks while Brockney and Skylar Cole have six and five, respectively.
AROUND THE CORNER
The Beavers will close out their COVID-19 adjusted and shortened season on Saturday afternoon by hosting the University of Dubuque at 2:00 p.m.
