WAVERLY, Iowa (February 6, 2021) – The Buena Vista Beavers Wrestling team came up short in a pair of American Rivers Conference duals in Levick Arena on Saturday to Central College 34-3 and Wartburg 49-0.
Wrestling two hard duals on Saturday, sophomore
Garret Bruce, and senior
Don Phillips II both picked up impressive victories against Central in the team's first dual. Bruce continued his hot streak with a 5-1 decision and Philips II wrestled smart to win with a 5-2 decision. Both leaders of the team took advantage of their opponent's mistakes and made their moves wisely.
Wrestling back-to-back, the Beavers then took on the Wartburg Knights where they all wrestled and fought hard, but each came up short.
Central moved to 3-0 overall with their win over the Beavers and Wartburg moves to 5-1 and 5-0 in the conference with their only fall to Iowa State to start off the season.
Buena Vista now stands at 2-4 overall (2-4 A-R-C) and will now head to Dubuque, Iowa, next Saturday to face off against Dubuque and Coe College in the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center starting at 12:00 p.m.
