WAVERLY, Iowa (February 6, 2021) – The Buena Vista Beavers return to the road as they travel to an American Rivers conference dual meet battling against Central college and the hosting Wartburg college inside Levick Arena.

ABOUT BUENA VISTA
The Beavers received a couple of tough losses when they battled hard against Loras college and Luthur College last week when hosting inside the Siebens Fieldhouse. After trailing Loras college in the first five matches, Sophomore Garret Bruce managed to break the streak and gain an impressive come from behind 8-6 victory over Matt Connolly. Garret would go on to continue his display with a dominating 9-0 major decision over Luther's Kamden Goering. Being the only wrestler to pick up wins in both matches, Garret currently leads the team in wins with Senior Don Phillips II (last years leader in wins) and Sophomore Diego Escarcega close behind.
 
ABOUT Wartburg
After dueling against division one Iowa State to start off the year, The Wartburg Knights have had a winning streak going 4-0 this year in the conference (4-1 overall). Junior Kris Rumph (141 Ibs) was noted for his performance being named wrestler of the week. Being undefeated at 3-0 at 141 ibs, Kris Rumph played a key role in last week's victories over Coe and Simpson. With six athletes placed in the top ten of the nation, Wartburg was picked to finish first in the preseason coaches' poll and seeks to maintain their hot streak this weekend against Central College and Buena Vista University. Notable performers are Junior Kris Rumph (141 ibs) and Senior Jordon Brandon (HWT).
 
 
 
ABOUT Central
Central started their season off strong knocking off both Nebraska Wesleyan and Dubuque University going 2-0. The Central Dutch were led by Senior Griffen Mcbride (184) who won both his matches by pinfall and was the key to sealing the deal in their duel with Dubuque. Another notable performance by heavyweight Samuel Zook, the junior also joined Mcbride with two pinfalls in each duel. Griffen Mcbride with a career record of 63-23 will continue to lead his team in the duels against Wartburg College and Buena Vista university this weekend.
 
ON DECK
 
The beavers are slated to travel to Dubuque, Iowa next Saturday the 13th where they continue their Conference schedule battling both the University Dubuque and COE college starting at 12:00 pm.
