STORM LAKE, Iowa (November 17, 2021) - The Buena Vista University wrestling team hosted third-ranked Loras College on Wednesday night in the American Rivers Conferece opener for both teams, but the Duhawks, with six ranked wrestlers in the line-up rolled to a 52-0 victory over the Beavers.
Senior
Byron Fleming kept within striking distance in the opening match for the Beavers but came up on the short end of a 9-6 decision at 125 pounds. The Duhawks (1-0, 1-0 A-R-C), wrestling their first dual of the year, recorded the first of six pins on the night at 133 pounds to go up 9-0 and then used the strength of having ranked wrestlers at the next six weights to break things wide open.
Junior
Garret Bruce kept things close with fourth-ranked Gabe Fiser at 165 pounds but like Fleming, also came up short at 9-6.
Buena Vista is now 1-2 overall this season (0-1 A-R-C) and will be back in action this weekend when it takes part in the UW-Eau Claire Tournament at Eau Claire, Wis., on Saturday, November 20, with action starting at 9:00 p.m.
