STORM LAKE, Iowa (January 30, 2021) - The Buena Vista wrestling team dropped a pair of American Rivers Conference duals inside of Siebens Fieldhouse on Saturday, falling to ninth-ranked Loras College, 51-2, and to Luther College, 34-13.

Sophomore 165-pounder Garret Bruce notched a couple of impressive wins on the day and was the only Beaver to win twice.  He trailed 5-2 entering the third period against Loras' Matt Connolly before getting a takedown and four-point near fall late in the period to hang on for a thrilling 8-6 victory.  He then took care of business against Luther's Kamden Goering to improve to 3-1 on the season.  He jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after hip-tossing Goering to his back right at the edge of the mat.  Then in the second period he added an escape and a takedown en route to the 9-0 major decision.

The Beavers trailed 17-13 midway through their dual with the Norse before dropping back-to-back matches in the final five seconds.  Luther then added a couple of late falls in the final two matches to break things open.

Loras, which picked up its first-ever conference title a season ago, scored bonus points in eight of the 10 matches against the Beavers before also knocking off the Norse, 35-9.

Buena Vista dips to 2-2 overall (2-2 A-R-C) and will now head to Waverly, Iowa, next Saturday (Feb. 6) to face both Central College and Wartburg College in a triangular inside Levick Arena starting at 1:00 p.m.
