LINCOLN, Neb. (January 23, 2021) - The Buena Vista wrestling team picked up American Rivers Conference dual victories on Saturday evening inside of Snyder Arena against both Simpson College and Nebraska Wesleyan to begin its 2020-21 campaign.

Sophomores Floyd Miller (174) and Diego Escarcega (184), along with senior Don Phillips II (197), picked up two victories apiece to help bolster the top of the line-up in both duals.  Against the Storm, BVU trailed 15-7 before Miller began the comeback with a hard fought 9-7 decision He got a big reversal and four-point near fall in the first period to take a 7-4 lead and extended it to 9-5 with another reversal in the third.  Escarcega and Phillips II notched back-to-back falls to give the Beavers the lead for good en route to a 22-19 triumph.

The host Prairie Wolves won three of the first five matches in the nightcap and led 17-8 before the monsterous finish by the Beavers included four pins and a technical fall that gave them a 38-17 victory.

Sophomore Garrett Bruce got the rally going with his pin late in the second period before Miller and Escarcega each followed suit with falls of their own.  Phillips II, who won 21 matches a season ago, rolled to a 15-0 second period technical fall before senior Diego Huerta, who's a member of the team for the first time this year, closed the book by chalking up his first career victory with a fall late in the opening period.

BVU, now 2-0 overall (2-0 A-R-C), will look to keep the momentum going as it hosts Luther College and #9 Loras College next Saturday, January 30, inside Siebens Fieldhouse.
