Women's Soccer Strikes First but Edged 4-2 by Red Raiders

Box Score

Junior Rachel Tice gave Buena Vista an early 1-0 lead and Brittany Tillman added a second half goal, but visiting Northwestern College had an answer each time and dealt the Beavers a tough 4-2 home loss on Wednesday evening inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.

Madisyn Rieakvam hooked up with Tice in the fifth minute of the contest to break the scoreless tie.  That lead lasted until the 22' when the Red Raiders tied things up and then took their first lead five minutes after that.

It became a 3-1 contest just over a minute into the second half when Northwestern scored its second unassisted goal of the match.  BVU, however, kept things interesting when Brittany Tillman blasted a kick from 25 yards out that went over the head and outstretched arms of the keeper.

The Red Raiders added a late insurance goal during the 85' that virtually put the match out of reach and send BVU to its first home loss of the year.

Tice and Rieakvam each had two shots to lead the offensive attack for BVU which was held to only seven overall.  Rachel Novotny went the distance in-goal, allowing the four goals and chalking up seven saves.

The Beavers drop to 2-5-1 overall and will travel to UW-Platteville on Saturday afternoon for a 12:30pm contest.  It'll be its final non-conference tune-up before opening Iowa Conference play at home on September 30 against Luther College.
