Box Score

Junior Samantha Arnold tied things up late in regulation for Buena Vista with her fifth goal of the year, but Northwestern College (IA) went on to score the game-winning goal just 41 seconds into the second overtime on Wednesday night in Orange City.

Northwestern took a 2-0 lead midway through the first half and continued to lead by that same margin until Arnold knocked home the first of her two goals on the evening during the 41'.

The Red Raiders led 2-1 at halftime before BVU tied things up on Caroline Maher's team-leading eighth goal of the year in the 61'. Northwestern reclaimed the lead later in the 74' and looked poised to end things in regulation until Arnold took a pass from Makayla Foster and squared things up at 3-3 with five minutes to go.

Northwestern held a 3-1 shots advantage in the first overtime but neither team managed to score.  The Red Raiders then wasted little time in the second extra period as Madeline Swift ended things with her second goal of the match.

Arnold took a team-high four shots and was on-goal with three.  Maher had three shots and two on-goal for the Beavers, who have now lost consecutive outings.

Alexis Burnett did have eight saves in a losing effort as 12 of the 28 shots she faced were on-goal.

Northwestern evens its record at 4-4 with the win.

Buena Vista will now prepare itself for the Iowa Conference opener on Saturday evening when the Beavers host the University of Dubuque at 5:00pm following the BVU and Simpson football game at 1:00pm.
