Maher Scores Twice but Beavers Fall 5-2 at Dordt

Box Score

Junior Caroline Maher scored a pair of first half goals for the Buena Vista women's soccer team on Wednesday night, but the Beavers couldn't quite overcome an early 3-0 deficit as they fell to the Defenders, 5-2.

Dordt wasted no time getting on the board, scoring the first goal of the night less than two minutes in.  The Defenders then went up 3-0 with goals during the 10' and 11'.

Maher got the Beavers on the board with her second goal of the year when she took a pass from Samantha Arnold during the 12'.  She then got BVU within a goal midway through the opening period on an assist from McKenna Whitehill.

It remained a one-goal match until Dordt pushed it to 4-2 only two minutes into the second period when Kenzie Bousema scored her third goal of the night.  The Defenders then added a late insurance goal during the 81' to make it 5-2.

Maher, who's now the team leader in goals this season, took six of the team's 10 shots, including four on-goal.

Alexis Burnett went the distance in-goal and posted six saves.

The Beavers are now 1-2-1 on the year and look to get back to .500 when they travel to Iowa Wesleyan for a 1:00pm on Saturday afternoon.
