Rosales Scores Game-Winner Late in Second Half to Lift BVU Past St. Mary's (Minn.), 1-0

Box Score

It was a tough defensive battle throughout with a handful of nice saves at both ends, but it was Buena Vista getting a nice feed from Kwame Antwi to Juan Rosales deep in the box to break a scoreless game late in the second half and give the Beavers a thrilling 1-0 non-conference victory over visiting St. Mary's University (Minn.) on Sunday evening.

Despite being outshot 14-3 over the final 45 minutes, BVU made the most of its final attempt as Antwi broke free down the far side of the field and drilled cross pass which Rosales stepped in and knocked through during the 85th minute for the first goal.

St. Mary's (3-9-1) had a chance to take the lead earlier in the half on a penalty kick, but a nice save from Jordan Balster helped preserve the team's third shutout of the year.  He finished with five saves in the half after taking over for Matt Tennyson who got the start and played the first 45 minutes.

Rosales posted two of the team's six shots in the game (both on-goal) with Tyler Lafferty also adding two.

The win snaps a tough five-match losing skid for the Beavers who will now host Central College coming up next Saturday afternoon in a big Iowa Conference match beginning at 3:00pm.
