STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 4, 2026) - The Buena Vista women's soccer team jumped out to a quick lead with  its first goal of the year within the first 30 seconds of Friday evening's home match against Augustana College (IL), but the Vikings respond with six second half goals to pull away for a 6-1 victory.

BVU kicked off the first meeting between the two programs since 2018 by sending a ball down toward the top of the Vikings' goal box which brough the keeper out near the top of the box. She tried to kick it out but was blocked and then freshman Alohilani Kaloala-Maruquin was able to gain control and kick it through for the 1-0 advantage.

It turned out to be a defensive battle the remainder of the half on what was a hot day inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium. The match had mandatory water breaks midway through both halves along with an extended halftime break.

Maruquin's goal was the team's only first half shot attempt while the Vikings had five.

Augustana took control and put the pressure on the Beaver defense throughout the second half with 11 shots compared to only four by BVU. The Vikings tied things at 1-1 just over five minutes into the half, and then took their first lead five minutes later. Mary Baker and Allison Gibeau each scored a pair of goals for Augustana which improved to 1-0-1 on the year.

Freshman Lindsey Brunell had two of the team's six shots on the day as four others each added one. Junior Maia Jaroch played the entire first half in-goal for the Beavers and netted three saves. Freshman Elliana Fantasia took over for the second half and also turned in three saves.

Buena Vista is now 0-1-1 on the year and returns to action on Sunday with a non-conference road match at Minnesota-Morris which begins at 1 p.m.
