STORM LAKE, Iowa  (Sept. 12,  2026)  - The Buena Vista women's tennis team began American Rivers Conference play on Saturday afternoon by hosting Nebraska Wesleyan. The Beavers closed out singles play in a strong way and pulled out a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Prairie Wolves.

The win over NWU snapped the Prairie Wolves' four-match win streak in the series and was BVU's first win against them since Oct. 26, 2021. The Beavers have never beaten Nebraska Wesleyan in Storm Lake.

BVU picked up a doubles win at No. 3 as the tandem of sophomore Abbey Meseck and senior Charlie Wiener rolled to a 6-0 triumph. NWU would go on to captures wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to earn the point.

The Prairie Wolves hung on for singles wins at No. 1 and No. 2, but the Beavers closed things out in thrilling fashion with wins at the final four slots to come back and earn the victory. All four triumphs came in straight sets, including a thrilling 7-5 win in the opening set by freshman Madi Peyman at No. 3 which was her first collegiate singles win.

“What a tremendous way to begin American Rivers Conference play!” said BVU head coach Dan Taylor. “Going in we thought it would be a close, competitive match and it most definitely was.”

“The depth of our lineup shined today, and we got straight sets wins at three through six singles to get the victory,” added Taylor. “That is our first win versus them since 2021.”

Buena Vista now sits at 1-2 overall this season and 1-0 in A-R-C matches. The team gets a short break before traveling to Pella,  Iowa  and taking on Central College on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m.
