MANKATO, Minn. (Apr. 13, 2026) - The Buena Vista women's track & field team loaded up and headed north this morning for the Minnesota State Open hosted by Minnesota State-Mankato, and the Beavers posted a handful of either personal best or season best marks throughout the day.

Megan Bakke placed sixth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:31.06 with Kenadie Thiner shaving 10 seconds off her previous best time and ran a 2:40.89. Bakke added to her strong day by placing third in the 1500-meter run with a new season best time of 4:51 which was just three seconds away from her own school record set as a freshman in 2024.

Freshman Ava Mills turned in another third-place finish for BVU by doing so in the javelin throw with a toss of 31.24m (102-06).

Payton Schermerhorn and Emma Wiebold each finished in the top-half of the shot placings by taking eighth and ninth, respectively, and being separated by only five inches. Schermerhorn also took eighth in the discus throw at 113-02.

Senior Karley Ruiz-Genovese set a new season best time of 5:07.08 in the 1500-meter run and placed eighth overall.

Buena Vista doesn't get much of a break as it returns to action later this week on Thursday and Friday at the Red Raider Open hosted by Northwestern College (IA). The meet has been pushed up from its originally scheduled Fri-Sat format due to unfavorable conditions on Saturday.
