HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 8, 2026) - The Buena Vista men's tennis team had its first match of the spring trip on Sunday afternoon against Baldwin Wallace, but despite playing a pair of tiebreakers, the Beavers came up short, 7-0.

Nick Hiney and Tyler Harger teamed up at No. 1 doubles and  forced a tiebreaker set but the duo would not score in the tiebreaker and was was edged, 7-6.

At No. 6 singles, Owen Stansberry came out and won the opening set 7-6 after winning the tiebreaker 7-4. He was the dealt a tough 6-1 loss in the second set to force the third set tiebreaker and would come up just short in that at 10-8.

Baldwin Wallace (4-1) would go on and win in straight sets in the first five singles matches.

"After the disappointment of not being able to play on Saturday, it was still a bit hard to jump back onto the courts and battle on today against a really good Baldwin Wallace team," said BVU head coach Brett Groen. "We had our chances in doubles, but were unable to get the lead in the tiebreak, and just weren't able to capitalize when we need it the most. Several of the players played probably their best matches of the spring but it sometimes doesn't show when you face a tough competition."

Buena Vista dips to 1-4 overall and plays Mount St. Mary's (Md.) on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. (CT)
