Beavers End Season with 71-57 Loss at No. 2 Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Feb. 26, 2026) - The Buena Vista women's basketball team had its season come to an end on Thursday night in the semifinal round of the American Rivers Conference Tournament with a 71-57 road loss at No. seed Coe College.

Sophomore Bradi Krager led the way with 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals, junior Mary Walker scored 12 points and had two steals, and freshman Adeeya Yanga added 10 points. Senior McKenna Cone came off the bench and made a pair of three-pointers but just missed out on scoring in double figures with nine points. Fellow senior Danika Demers capped off her career with five more assists and ends with 397 overall.

BVU was held to 33.3 percent shooting from the field overall and just 5-of-22 (22.7 percent) from downtown but did make 14-of-17 attempts at the free-throw line. The Kohawks, meanwhile, went 12-of-23 from behind the arc (52.2 percent) and was just over 46.0 percent overall.

BVU led 16-13 after a three-pointer by Cone with 2:12 to play in the first quarter but did not make another field goal until there was 1:11 remaining in the half. The team finished just 1-for-11 shooting in the second quarter and scored just seven points. During that stretch, the Kohawks used a 20-1 run to take control and led 41-23 at the half.

After going 4-of-7 from long range in the second quarter, the Kohawks came out and matched that in the third while BVU was just 5-for-11 overall and trailed 58-37 heading to the fourth.

The Beavers heated up in the final quarter, but in the end it was just too much to overcome. They were able to shave the margin down to 14 with over 3:30 still to play but scored just two points after that.

Caydee Kirkham led all scorers with 18 points to lead three players in double figures for the Kohawks (20-6) who will advance to play at top-seed Wartburg College in the championship on Saturday.

Buena Vista closes out its remarkable season at 17-10 overall. The game also marked the final one in the careers of: McKenna Cone, Danika Demers, Madalyn Hilgendorf, Jenna Hallock, Hayley Humphrey, Emily Nothwehr, and Annie Johnson.
