INDIANOLA, Iowa (Feb. 20, 2026) - The Buena Vista women's wrestling team has a pair of individuals still alive in the consolation bracket heading into Saturday of the NCAA Women's Wrestling Regional #5 hosted by Simpson College. Freshmen
Savannah Freifeld (138) and
Alannah Peterson (207) are both one win away from placing as they move into the third round consolation.
Freifeld, seeded sixth, began the tournament with a convincing 13-2 technical fall in 5:10 before falling by pin to third-seed Kylie Rule of Wartburg. She bounced right back, however and pinned Luther's Lucy Miller in under a minute. She now has 26 wins on the year and will go up against 10th-seed Esther Belzer of Central College with the winner guaranteed to place in the top six.
Despite a first round bye, Peterson, seeded eighth, had a tough draw in the 207-pound bracket as she drew top-seed Kaja Osteen from the University of Iowa in the second round and would lose by fall. She did, however, come right back in her first consolation match to win by fall in only 33 seconds over Natalie Gratschmayr from UW-Oshkosh. Next up will be a match-up against fourth-seed Kate Riege of Wisconsin-Stevens Points with the winner also moving into the top-six.
Fellow freshmen
Paige Baier and
Kinalisa Lokot also competed for the Beavers but both were eliminated after losing twice. Baier won her first round consolation match by fall in just over three minutes but was eliminated after dropping a second round consolation match by technical fall.
Saturday's action inside of Cowles Fieldhouse will begin at 11 a.m. The top-3 overall placewinners from each weight class will move on to the NCAA National Championship Tournament on March 6 in Coralville, Iowa.Â
