Women's Basketball Edged by Wartburg 64-53

Freshman Adeeya Yanga drives past two Wartburg defenders during the team's 64-53 loss to the Knights on Wednesday night.

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Feb. 11, 2026) - The Buena Vista women's basketball team remained at home on Wednesday to host Wartburg College, but the Beavers would ultimately come up short, 64-53, in what was a defensive battle by both teams inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.

Freshman Adriana Howard turned in her second career double by scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She finished 3-of-4 shooting from the field and made all four attempts at the free-throw line. Freshman Adeeya Yanga led the way with 17 points and added five boards while sophomore Bradi Krager chipped in with 13 points and three steals.

The Beavers couldn't get the shots to fall from behind the arc and finished only 2-of-14 while the Knights went 8-for-26 overall.

Both teams came out and were held to under 33 percent shooting in the opening quarter. BVU went 0-for-3 from downtown and held the Knights to just 1-of-7 but still trailed 13-12 going to the second. Krager made a layup in the first minute of the second quarter to give BVU a 14-13 advantage, but the team was then held scoreless over the next five minutes while Wartburg nailed a pair of treys as part of a 10-0 run that gave the Knights a nine-point advantage and forced BVU head coach Kylee Boettcher to call a timeout. Wartburg extend the margin to 32-19 at the half.

Warburg maintained the double-digit lead throughout the first half of the third quarter before the Beavers made a charge and got as close as six after a layup by senior Danika Demers made it 38-32 at the four-minute mark. Wartburg responded with a layup and a three-pointer to quickly push its lead back up to 11 and forcing another BVU timeout. After the Beavers cut it back down to eight, the Knights closed the frame on an 8-2 run to lead 51-37 going to the fourth.

A tough BVU defensive effort held Wartburg to only a pair of fourth quarter field goals, but the Knights went 8-of-13 from the charity stripe in the quarter to help hold the Beavers from making any sort of run.

The Knights (17-6, 13-1 A-R-C) got 15 points and nine rebounds from Katie Boulanger while Grace Hennessy also turned in 15 points.

Buena Vista dropped only its third game overall since Dec. 20 and is now 13-9 on the year (7-6 A-R-C). The team is currently tied with Simpson College for fourth in the league standings with three games remaining. The Beavers go back on the road on Saturday for a pivotal game at Luther College (12-10, 8-5 A-R-C) who is currently one game ahead in the standings. BVU knocked off the Norse, 73-61, back on Jan. 17. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
