GRINNELL, Iowa (Jan. 31, 2026) - The Buena Vista women's indoor track & field team had a strong day at the Grinnell College Invite and came in fourth overall among 15 teams that took part on Saturday.
Freshman
Hailey Hearting came in third during the 60m hurdles, fifth in the 200m dash and seventh in the long jump. She qualified eighth into the finals of the hurdles with a time of 10.13 before later going onto the top-3 finish with a strong time of 9.99 seconds. Her time of 27.47 in the 200m was a new personal best clocking.
Sophomore
Ava Mills also qualified into the finals of the 60m hurdles and would take seventh overall in a time of 10.14. She also gave BVU a fourth-place effort in the high jump at 1.45m.
Junior
Megan Bakke came across in third-place in the mile run with a season-best mark of 5:22.81 in what turned out to a bang-bang finish at the line. Bakke's time was only 0.3 off of the winning time, and she held off two other runners by just less than one full second. Bakke also came in eighth during the 800m run and was only four seconds off the winning pace.
Junior
Payton Schermerhorn had another solid day for the Beavers in the throwing events by coming in second in the shot put with a heave of 12.34m (40-6.0) and claiming fourth in the weight throw at 14.22m (46-8.0).
The Beavers totaled 41 points on the day for the fourth-place finish. Simpson College came in third with 87 points while Central College claimed the team title with 178 points.
Next up for Buena Vista will be the Spartan Shootout hosted by the University of Dubuque next Saturday, Feb. 7.
