BROOKINGS, S.D. (Dec. 6, 2025) - The Buena Vista women's indoor track & field team officially got the season underway with an early season competition at the South Dakota State University Holiday Meet on Friday.
The field was made up primarily of Division I and NAIA schools with a handful of Beaver athletes taking part. Junior
Megan Bakke turned in an 11th place performance in the 3,000-meter run with a new personal best clocking of 10:35.12. That shaves nearly 10 seconds off her previous best set last season and moves her up to second place in program history, just behind
Emily Hoesing's mark of 10:33.06.
Freshman Hailey Hearting made her collegiate debut, and it was highlighted by a ninth-place overall finish in the long jump at 5.11 meters (16-9.25) which puts her sixth on the program's all-time list. She also competed in the 200-meter dash and came in 23rd at 27.55 seconds and 30th in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.84 and just missing out on a spot in BVU's top-10 by 0.14 seconds.
Junior
Payton Schermerhorn turned in a new personal best heave in the weight throw at 14.10 meters (46-3.25) which placed her 20th overall.
Buena Vista will return to its full schedule after the holiday break when it competes at the Chelsey Henkenius Open, hosted by Wartburg College, on Jan. 17, 2026.
