CRETE, Neb. (Jan. 17, 2026) - The Buena Vista women's indoor track & team was on the track officially for the start of the 2026 season on Saturday, taking part in the Scott Nisely Invitational at Doane University. 

Junior Megan Bakke took third in the mile run for the Beavers in 5:30.99. Hailey Hearting came in fifth in the 200m dash with a strong time of 28.27. She also competed in the long jump and took eighth at 5.03 meters.

Payton Schermerhorn led the way in the throwing events with an 11th-place finish in the weight throw with a new personal best heave of 14.20m. She also took 11th in the shot put at 11.71m.

Buena Vista continues its season next Saturday, Jan. 24, hosting the Dennis Young Classic inside of the Lamberti Recreation Center. Field events will begin all th action at 11 a.m.
