Ty Hoover Announced as New Head Track & Field Coach

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Aug. 4, 2025) - Buena Vista University Director of Athletics Amy Maier has announced that Ty Hoover has been hired as the university's new head women's and men's track & field coach.

Hoover is coming to BVU after spending the last three seasons as director of track & field and cross country at Adrian College (Mich.) where he more than doubled his overall roster size from 44 to 93. In addition, he coached 13 conference champions, four national qualifiers, 34 conference medalist, 10 school record performances and had nine Academic All-Conference selections.

“I am very excited for Ty to be joining our Track & Field program,” says Maier. “I believe both our current and perspective student-athletes will be drawn to his passion for the sport and for developing the whole student-athlete.  Ty’s experiences both across multiple disciplines within track and field as well as other leadership roles, I am confident will serve the program well.”

Hoover competed collegiately in track & field at Trine University (Ind.) as a member of the track and field team. During his time in college, he was also a member of the United States Air Force where he served a six-year term from 2016-22 and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. He graduated in 2022 while majoring in Exercise Science and earning minors in coaching and sports psychology.

I'm most excited to take over for a program that has so much potential and support. The facilities, administration, and alumni are incredible and I look forward to being a part of it all!

“My previous experiences and strong mentors have really prepared me for this opportunity,” adds Hoover. “I've got a great group of people who have pushed me further in this career path and continue to help along the way. I especially want to thank Amy Maier for giving me this opportunity and already being so great to work with. I also want to thank my loving girlfriend for all her support in my career and her continued support in such a big move here to Iowa!”

Hoover is set to begin his duties on campus immediately.
