ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Jan. 3, 2026) - The Buena Vista men's wrestling team was right back on the mat Saturday to take part in the Fred Johnson Duals hosted by Augustana College (Ill.). The Beavers went 2-1 on the day with wins over Triton College and Westminster College (Mo.) while falling to Millikin University.

Against Triton, senior Tyler Japp got things started on the right foot for BVU with a strong 9-4 victory at 125 pounds. Triton then won three straight matches to go in front 11-3 before LaTravion Agu won by forfeit to make it 11-9. Triton picked up a win at 165 pounds to extend its advantage to 17-9, but the Beavers closed with four straight victories, including a pair by forfeit, to go on to win 33-17.

Japp, who was 3-0 on the day, picked up one of five BVU forfeit wins in the dual against Westminster as the Beavers rolled to a 51-6 victory. Freshman Jack Decker picked up an 11-3 major decision at 133 pounds for a quick 10-0 lead. The Blue Jays got their only win at 141 pounds by fall to close the gap to 10-6. It was all BVU after that. Agu notched an early fall at 157 pounds to extend the cushion to 22-6 before senior Luis Salazar won by a second period technical fall at 197 pounds and junior Colton O'Hern recorded a fall at 285 to cap off the win.

The Beavers faced an unbeaten Millikin squad and suffered their only loss of the day at 44-11. Japp secured a first period fall to give the team the early 6-0 lead but Millikin rolled off six straight wins to make it 31-6 before senior Trevor Kruse scored a second period technical fall (15-0) for BVU's only other win of the dual.

Buena Vista is now 3-6 overall and has nearly two weeks off before the home opener on Thursday, Jan. 15 as the Beavers host Nebraska Wesleyan University in the annual Ballroom Brawl starting at 7 p.m.
