Men's Tennis Secures Win over Bethany Lutheran on Senior Day

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Apr. 5, 2025) - The Buena Vista men's tennis team remained at home on Saturday afternoon and stepped out of conference play to host Bethany Lutheran College on what was also Senior Day. BVU had little trouble on the day en route to a 7-0 shutout victory over the Vikings.

The Beavers took control of the match-up right out of the gate in doubles play as they swept through those three contests without allowing a single point.

That momentum carried over into singles play as BVU won all six matches in straight sets while allowing more than one point only once in any of the 12 sets played.

“Today was a great way to bounce back from the loss earlier this week,” said BVU head coach Brett Groen. “We came out early and took care of doubles as we have done before this year, and I think our aggressiveness paid off there right into singles. For our seniors, this was a great way to celebrate their four years of hard work and determination wrapped up in this win for senior day. Dalton, Brock and Ryan have been the center of this team's line-up since they arrived on campus four years ago, and for them to each get a win today, means a lot to me and the program. Our season is far from over, and we have to bounce right back and prepare for Simpson on Tuesday. We have to be prepared to battle for each point on the court as our conference season will be in full swing now.”

Fans that attended the match were also treated to a FREE corn dog while supplies lasted as part of the annual Senior Day festivities. Coach Groen took the opportunity to speak about the seniors on the court as well.

Buena Vista (6-6) travels to Indianola, Iowa, on Tuesday, Apr. 8, and will take on the Simpson College Storm in an A-R-C match-up starting at 4 p.m.
