The Beavers hung in the match all they way to the end, including wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4. Pregon came out and won his opening set, 6-3 before falling by the same score in the second. He then bounced back in the decisive third set to win 6-3. Bruns also had to go to the third set in his No. 3 match after winning the first and falling in the second. He closed the match with a strong 6-1 triumph.
Webb notched a straight-set victory (7-5, 6-2) at No. 4 to go perfect on the day. Bryson Fredericksen lost a heartbreaker in three sets at No. 6 after coming out and taking the first set by a thrilling 7-6 (8-6) victory.
“This will be one that will sting for a bit,” said BVU head coach Brett Groen. "I’ve always talked a lot about how one or two points might decide a match, and tonight was one of those nights, and unfortunately it went against us. We battled well in doubles, and had late match leads on our rackets, and just couldn’t find the way to finish the bigger points. This was a prize fight match with three matches decided in third sets, and three more matches that had tie-breaks in them as well. Hats off to the seniors tonight, as they picked up three big wins for us in singles, and Ryan added an extra match in doubles as well. We have to learn from this tough tight match and use it for the next time it comes up.
