DAVENPORT, Fla. (Mar. 7, 2025) - The Buena Vista baseball team had a two-run lead with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Benedictine strung together a two-out rally and would go on and edge the Beavers, 5-4.
The Eagles recorded a pair of RBI ground outs in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead before the Beavers scored three times in the fifth. Senior
Drew Taylor tripled home BVU's first run of the game in the fifth which was followed later in the inning with RBI singles from
Kaden Struck and
Brandon Jenkins as they took their first lead at 3-2. Junior
Tegan Bock tripled in the eighth inning that extended that lead to 4-2.
Junior
Logan Lape-Brinkman took over to begin the ninth inning and got two quick outs before issuing a walk and a hit by pitch. The Eagles then pulled within a run with an RBI single before sophomore Drew Camman took over and surrendered a game-tying RBI single followed by a pair of walks as the Eagles won in walk-off fashion.
Senior
Morgan Smith pitched eight strong innings for BVU but would suffer his third straight no decision. The right hander allowed just two runs and two hits while striking out five and walking two.Â
Taylor finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored while Bock was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. BVU finished with eight hits overall as the Eagles chalked up four.
Buena Vista is now 6-3 overall and will wrap up the spring trip on Saturday, Mar. 8, against Mount Union. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
