DePascale came up short in a straight set loss in his No. 1 singles match, but Pregon came through with a big three-set tiebreaker win. He came out and won the opening set, 6-2, but then had to bounce back to win the tiebreaker after dropping the second set, 6-2. He had little problem in the decisive third set by rolling to a 10-1 victory.
From there, BVU seemed to catch its stride and would win No. 3 thru No. 6 singles in straight sets.
“I cant say enough how proud I am of our fight and determination on the court,” says Groen. “The team was slow out of the gate this morning, but got hot when we needed them to and put that doubles point on the board again. It's been great to see our doubles team playing the way they have even though we still have some room for improvement. But it’s been a key to our success having that first point on the board.”
“Brock and Dalton carried over their success in doubles to the singles win columns as well,” added Groen. Brock played patient tennis and really put the ball away when he needed too. Dalton has been playing some great exciting tennis, hard on the fans, but he has been clutch late in matches, and won in a third set tie break again. Nick Hiney stepped into the singles line up today at No. 4 and came away super big for the team getting the win that sealed the victory. The more Nick can play relaxed and his style in singles, he is going to be a great addition to the line up. Tyler was playing through some pain today, and changed up his attack but still got the victory; that just shows you how good he can be. Bryson finished out the win for us today, and after having to sit for nearly two hours and watch, he went out on the court and took care of business as well."
Buena Vista improves to 5-3 overall and looks to keep things rolling as it faces Johnson & Wales (N.C.) on Wednesday, Mar. 5 at 8:30 a.m. ET.
