LINCOLN, Neb. (Feb. 05, 2025) – The Buena Vista University men's wrestling team was on the road Wednesday night as it took on Nebraska Wesleyan in an American Rivers Conference dual but the Prairie Wolves pulled away for the 45-6 victory.

Sophomore Colton O'Hern was the sole scorer in the dual tonight at heavyweight for the Beavers. He was able to come out to a quick lead with a takedown and was later able to late in the first period throw his opponent straight to his back, securing the Beavers pin.

The dual started with a couple of tough matches as the Beavers took a pair of losses at 125 and 133. It was a tough 13-8 decision at 125 followed by a major decision at 133, putting the Beavers down early, 7-0. Following one of the three open weights for BVU at 141, it became a 13-0 deficit, and the Beavers then had another couple of losses by major decision at 149 and 157.

BVU was open at both 164 and 174 as NWU pulled away in the middle weights, and going into the 184 and 197 weight classes, the Beavers had some more tough, hard, fought losses. Both wrestlers got caught in some tough positions and ended up taking a pair of falls before O'Hern was able to put the Beavers on the board with his sole victory.

Freshman Jesus Olivares wrestled a great final match of the night as was able to compete for the Beavers in an extra match at the conclusion of the dual. Olivares was able to stay offensive the whole match and secure a quick 22-4 tech fall.

The Beavers competed very tough and didn't give up throughout the duration of the whole dual. The team was all over the side of the mat, cheering each other on and greeting each other at the end of all the matches. They will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 8, as they take on Simpson in a conference dual. The dual will take place at Storm Lake and is the annual Ballroom Brawl located inside of Siebens Forum starting at 3 p.m.
