Coe Holds off Beavers in A-R-C Opener

Freshman Adeeya Yanga looks to go up for a shot against a Coe defender during the A-R-C opener on Dec. 3, 2025.

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Dec. 3, 2025) - The Buena Vista women's basketball team hosted Coe College for its American Rivers Conference opener on Wednesday night but a late second half rally fell just short as the Kohawks held off the Beavers 55-47.

Both teams came out strong in the opening quarter with Coe shooting over 56 percent from the field and BVU at better than 46 percent, but the Kohawks scored four points over the final five seconds to lead 22-14. It was a defensive battle throughout the second quarter with only 17 combined points. Sophomore Tyme Boettcher drilled a three-pointer just before the first half horn sounded to pull the Beavers within 32-21 at the break.

The Kohawks built an early 16-point lead in the second half at 41-25 before the Beavers began to heat up and used a quick 9-0 run to cut the deficit down to 41-34 with just over one minute to go and trailed 42-34 heading to the fourth. Coe maintained the margin throughout most of the final stanza with BVU getting as close as five after a made jumper from junior Mary Walker with under 55 seconds left. Coe made 3-of-4 from the free-throw line down the stretch as the Beavers came up empty on their final four shot attempts.
