MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Dec. 16, 2025) - Sophomore
Adam Bryte nailed a three-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime, and then came out and drilled another of his career-high six long range buckets to begin the extra period, as he helped lead the Buena Vista men's basketball team to a thrilling 92-87 non-conference road victory on Tuesday night.
Bryte was 6-of-14 from downtown to surpass his previous best of five makes reached in this year's season-opener against St. Scholastica. He finished the game with 22 points and hauled in 10 rebounds for his second career double-double. Senior
Jackson Jones added four makes from beyond the arc and led BVU in scoring with a new career-high of 24 points to go along with eight rebounds and two steals. In just his second game back from injury, junior
Carter Sievers chipped in with 17 points, grabbed six boards and dished out a career-high nine assists. Sophomore
Jayden Brink was held to only 1-of-8 shooting from long range but added 11 points.
Despite scoring 14 points in overtime, the three-point bucket by Bryte to begin the scoring was the only made field goal by the Beavers in the extra period. The team did all of its scoring at the free-throw line where it made 11-of-14 attempts after making 10-of-11 in the second half. It finished the game by sinking 24-of-30 overall.
Buena Vista was 37 percent from the field overall and made 12-of-40 from downtown while the Rams were a touch better at 47.1 percent from the floor and made 10-of-29 from distance. Both teams combined for 43 turnovers.
Each team led by as many as six points in the first half and went into the locker room even at 37-37. It was more of the same in the second half with six lead changes over the first eight minutes of the half. The Rams matched their largest lead of the game at 72-66 following a made layup with 4:31 left in regulation. After a BVU timeout, Brink would drill his only made three-point basket of the game to cut the deficit in half. Two minutes later Sievers nailed one from downtown to give the Beavers the lead back at 75-74 with 1:01 left.
The Rams jumped right back in front with a layup at the other end, and after BVU failed to regain the lead on its next two trips down the floor, North Central went to the free-throw line to make a pair of free-throws to extend its cushion to 78-75 with 12 seconds left.
Buena Vista then drove down the length of the floor, and that's when Sievers drove the lane and dished out to an open Bryte on the far side of the court for his fifth three-point bucket and tied the score at 78-78 with three seconds on the clock to force overtime.
Bryte then came out and nailed a long range bucket 45 seconds into OT before BVU made six straight free-throws and quickly built a nine-point lead at 87-78. The Rams tried to keep it close and cut the margin down to five with 56 seconds left, but the Beavers made free-throws down the stretch to keep the game out of reach and finish with a season-high in points scored.
North Central (2-10) was led in scoring by Carmello McNeal's game-high 28 points and five made three's while Carrington McNeal was right behind with 20 points and three steals.
BVU moves to 6-3 on the year and returns back home to Siebens Fieldhouse on Friday, Dec. 19, to host Lakeland University (2-7) in a non-conference game. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
