DUBUQUE, Iowa (Nov. 20, 2025) - The Buena Vista women's wrestling team took the mat for its first dual meet of the season on Thursday night at Loras College, and the Beavers won five of the six matches wrestled to hold off the Duhawks, 24-20.

Harley Tobin had a nifty hip toss for the Beavers midway through first period that gave BVU the victory in between a pair of Loras forfeit wins that made it 10-5. The Duhawks extended that margin to 15-5 after a fall at 131, but that's when BVU caught fire.

Savannah Freifeld picked up a quick technical fall win followed by a forfeit win to pull the Beavers within 15-14. Destiny Kolheim then picked up a huge reversal that turned into a fall late in the first period before Stephanie Sorsby followed with a fall of her own at 180 pounds to secure the win. Loras would win by forfeit at 207 pounds to make it a 24-20 final.

Buena Vista is now 1-0 on the year and has won five of its last seven duals dating back to last season. The team returns to action next on Nov. 22 at the 8 Women Batles hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
