NORTHFIELD, Minn. (Nov. 15, 2025) - Junior
Mary Walker turned in 24 points, eight rebounds and five steals and led four players in double figures for Buena Vista on Saturday afternoon, but the Beavers came up just short at St. Olaf, 66-65.
Walker was 7-of-16 from the field with three made three-point shots while going a perfect 7-for-7 at the charity stripe. Freshmen
Adriana Howard and
Adeeya Yanga each tallied 11 points with sophomore
Bradi Krager turning in 10 points and eight boards. Fellow sophomore
Tyme Boettcher also matched the team-high with eight rebounds. Senior
Danika Demers dished out four assists and became only the fourth player in program history to surpass 300 in a career. She now has 303 and is only eight away from second (Amanda Nelson).
Buena Vista came out and shot nearly 44 percent from the field in the opening quarter and trailed only 17-16 heading to the second. Both teams were under 28 percent shooting in the second quarter with St. Olaf clinging to a 34-30 lead at the half. It remained a four-point margin heading into the fourth and came down to the wire.
St. Olaf (2-0) took the 66-65 lead on a 1-of-2 trip to the free-throw line with 38 seconds remaining in regulation but grabbed a key offensive rebound. Then after a missed three-point attempt with 21 seconds to go, it grabbed another offensive board but would turn the ball over to BVU out of a timeout. The Beavers had a chance to win the game in the closing seconds but Krager's layup attempt missed.
The Beavers finished the game shooting 36.5 percent from the field and 14-of-19 at the free-throw line. St. Olaf connected on only 33.3 percent from the field and just 16-of-26 from the free-throw line.
Buena Vista is now 2-2 on the year and will host Grinnell College in a non-conference game on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m.
