YANKTON, S.D. (Jan. 18, 2025) - Freshman
Claire Schroeder captured her first collegiate individual title in the women's 60m hurdles on Saturday at the Mount Marty Open to highlight the day for the Buena Vista University women's indoor track & field team.
Schroeder ran the fastest qualifying time of 9.11 seconds before winning what turned out to be a thrilling finish with a mark of 9.22 seconds in the finals. She held off Augustana's Maria Pedroso by 0.01 seconds and Baylee Van Zee by 0.03 seconds. Schroeder also made her debut in the long jump and leaped 4.75m to place 10th.
Sophomore
Megan Bakke ran her personal best time of 5:35.23 in the mile run and placed fourth. The time is also the seventh-fastest time in BVU history. Fellow sophomore
Takara Conley came in fifth in the 800m run 2:34.13 and also notched a personal best time and was only a second back of fourth.
Senior
Courtney Johnson took runner-up in the shot put with a heave of 12.73m (41-9.25) and was a foot-and-a-half behind the champion. Sophomore
Payton Schermerhorn placed fourth with a personal best toss of 12.53m while
Ava Mills also notched a big personal best toss at 10.26m.
Buena Vista looks to keep its early season momentum going when it hosts the annual Dennis Young Indoor Classic on Saturday, Jan. 25, inside of the Lamberti Recreation Center. Field events will get the day started at 11 a.m.
