Men's Tennis Rolls to 8-1 Win over Martin Luther

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Apr. 8, 2024) - The Buena Vista men's tennis team remained at home and played a second straight non-conference match on Monday afternoon, and the Beavers rolled to a strong 8-1 victory over visiting Martin Luther College out on the Buntrock Tennis Courts.

Dalton Pregon and Henry Borts captured a strong 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles followed by an 8-3 triumph at No. 2 by Brock Bruns and Ryan Webb. The only blemish on the day for BVU was a narrow 8-6 setback at No. 3 doubles.

It was all Beavers throughout singles play as they won four of the six in straight sets. Borts rallied after dropping the second set at No. 1 singles to win the third set tiebreaker, 10-8, for his first collegiate single victory. Bryson Frederickson picked up a three-set victory at No. 6 with a 10-5 win in the third.

"Tonight was a great bounce back win for the entire team," said BVU head coach Brett Groen. “We started a bit shaky in doubles, but ran off two big wins at number one and number two and almost had a comeback at number three. Getting two wins in doubles really sets our team up well and we responded with authority. It was great to see Henry get his first collegiate win in a hard-fought three-setter. With most of our conference season straight ahead, it's nice to get these wins and build the confidence heading into the hardest part of our season.”

The Beavers will be right back in action on Tuesday afternoon, Apr. 9, as they move back into American Rivers Conference play at Nebraska Wesleyan. First serve against the Prairie Wolves is at 4 p.m.
