WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (Apr. 29, 2024) - It was a promising start to the A-R-C Championships on Sunday afternoon for the Buena Vista University men's golf team, but the Beavers struggled a bit more during their second round on Monday, and dipped down one spot into eighth overall at 654.
Freshman Cooper Sebastian posted BVU's low round of the day at 79 which followed his opening round 83 a day earlier. The four-stroke improvement bumped him up 10 spots and into a tie for 25th overall. He finished his day with a one-over 37 on the back nine which included three birdies. Sophomore Mason Laven carded an 85 over his second 18 holes of play and dropped 13 spots into a tie with Sebastian for 25th. He was hindered by a tough triple-bogey on the par-5 11th - a hole he birdied during Sunday's opening round. Both golfers enter the final round six shots back of the top-10 which is needed to earn all-conference accolades.
Fellow sophomore Matthew Turpen, who was tied for 12th with Laven after Sunday, turned in a round of 89 on Monday which has him tied for 33rd. Teammate Kaleb Sander is right behind in a tie for 36th after a round of 87.
Central College's Jake Moffet is the clubhouse leader by two shots at +4.
The Beavers sit four strokes behind Coe College for seventh and are four strokes ahead of Loras who is in ninth. Wartburg is 12 strokes ahead of BVU and in sixth.
The final 18 holes of the 54-hole event are scheduled for Tuesday, Apr. 30. Tee-times begin at 9 a.m.
