PELLA, Iowa (Apr. 22, 2024) - The Buena Vista University men's tennis team began the final week of its regular season on Monday afternoon with an American Rivers Conference road match at Central College, but it was the Dutch pulling through with an 8-1 victory.
It was a thrilling start to the contest with all three doubles matches coming down to the wire, including at No. 3 where BVU's Henry Borts and Tyler Harger were edged in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-4). The Dutch also claimed victories over BVU at both No 1. and No. 2 by 8-6 and 8-5 scores, respectively.
The Beavers pulled out their only victory of the day at No. 4 singles with Ryan Webb picking up his second A-R-C victory of the year after winning a three-set tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4). Central picked up straight set wins in the other five matches and improved to 8-10 overall (5-1 A-R-C).
Buena Vista is now 4-13 on the year and 1-5 in conference play. The Beavers travel to Dubuque this weekend to play Loras (7-12, 24- A-R-C) on Apr. 26 at 4 p.m. before taking on the University of Dubuque (4-9, 1-4 A-R-C) on Apr. 27 at 4 p.m.
