Men's Tennis Drops a Pair of Matches to begin Spring Season

MADISON, Wis. (Feb. 17, 2024) - The Buena Vista men's tennis team began its spring season over the weekend by playing matches on both Friday and Saturday at the Powless Tennis Center.

BVU opened against Edgewood College on Friday afternoon but came up just short in a tight 5-4 loss. The Beavers suffered narrow 8-5 setbacks at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles before the No. 3 tandem of Henry Borts and Bryson Frederickson came through with a strong 8-1 triumph.

The Beavers were then edged in a pair of three-set tiebreakers at both No. 2 and No. 3 singles before capturing wins in the final three singles spots. Ryan Webb, Tyler Hager and Daniel Vargas all secured straight set wins by 6-0, 6-1 margins.

Buena Vista aimed to bounce back on Saturday afternoon when it faced the University of Northwestern-St. Paul, but the Eagles came away with a 9-0 shutout victory.

Dalton Pregon and Brock Bruns suffered a tight 8-5 loss at No. 1 doubles while Borts and Frederickson suffered a tough 8-7 setback at No. 3 that included a 7-5 tiebreaker.

Buena Vista is now 0-5 overall and returns to action on Mar. 4 when it plays Johnson and Wales to begin its Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C.
