Emily Hoesing Named Head Cross Country Coach

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Dec. 10, 2024) – Buena Vista University Director of Athletics Amy Maier has announced the hiring of Emily Hoesing as the university’s next head women’s and men’s cross country coach and assistant track and field coach. Hoesing takes over for Charlie Pruitt, who had led the team for the past two seasons.

Hoesing, a 2021 graduate of BVU, has spent the last two seasons serving as head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach at the University of Minnesota-Morris. During that time, she coached three all-conference runners in cross country, a pair of all-conference finishers with indoor track, two more all-conference performers in outdoor track and one school record performance.

I am extremely excited for the opportunity to return to my alma mater as the next head cross country coach. I am excited to bring my experiences as an undergraduate and graduate student-athlete to grow the program. From the strong support system to the facilities and various training areas, I truly believe BVU has the foundation to build a successful program.

A native of Sioux City, Iowa, Hoesing was a four-year team MVP cross country runner for the Beavers and capped her career by being an All-Central Region selection in 2019. She was an Academic All-Conference selection each year and was named BVU’s Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year in 2019.

In 2021, Hoesing earned her undergraduate degree in Art Education and Spanish Education before going on to also earn her Master of Education in Curriculum and Educational Leadership from BVU in 2023. Prior to leaving for UM-M, Hoesing served as a graduate assistant coach for the Beavers.

Hoesing is grateful for this opportunity and says she has gained a great deal of experience while leading the Cougars’ program the last two years.

“I enjoy broadening my skill set and staying engaged on a higher level,” she adds. “I have been fortunate to participate in a variety of professional development opportunities that have better positioned me for this opportunity.”

Hoesing has recently earned her certifications as an endurance event specialist and in strength and conditioning coaching.

“I am extremely excited to have Emily join our coaching staff,” says Maier. “Her passion for BVU and her desire to see the cross country teams grow is evident. I’m looking forward to seeing her put her stamp on the program.”

Hoesing will begin her duties on campus after Jan. 1, 2025.
