ASHLAND, Neb. (Oct. 18, 2024) - The Buena Vista University women's cross country team only had a pair of runners take part in the annual Platte River Rumble, hosted by Creighton University, but those individuals ran well and finished in the top half of a field which consisted of teams from Division I, II and III.
Sophomore Megan Bakke led the way in a time of 24:16.09 and a 25th place overall placing while junior Karley Ruiz-Genovese came in 45th at 25:44.18. Both times were less than a minute off their personal best marks. Bakke was the second-fastest DIII finisher to cross the line.
The 6k race consisted of 80 finishers and was won by the University of Omaha's Kamryn Ensley (22:02.59) who held off Southeast Community College's Karen Kiratu by 11 seconds.
It was the final tune-up for the Beavers as the team prepares for the American Rivers Conference Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
