INDIANOLA, Iowa (Jan. 10, 2024) - Sophomore Jenna Hallock led Buena Vista with 15 points and five rebounds on Wednesday night at Simpson College, but it was a tough second quarter that plagued the Beavers during a 77-55 American Rivers Conference loss inside Cowles Fieldhouse.

Sophomore Danika Demers was held to only three points on the night, but did lead the Beavers with seven rebounds to go along with three assists and one steal. Freshman CJ Long came off the bench and chipped in with six points and six boards.

Haley Humphrey's jumper with just over one minute left in the opening stanza pulled BVU within 15-11. The Storm, however, got a pair of baskets inside the final 30 seconds to lead 20-11 after the quarter. BVU was held scoreless for nearly the first six minutes of the second while Simpson went on a 22-0 surge that carried back to the opening quarter and built a 37-11 advantage.

CJ Long ended the drought for the Beavers with a pair of made free-throws at the 4:34 mark as BVU was held to only seven total points in the frame and trailed 51-18 at the half.

The Beavers shot better than 40 percent from the field in each of the final two quarters, outscoring the Storm 37-25 in the second half, but it was too-little-too late.

Haley Rasmussen led Simpson with 13 points, including three of its nine made three-point baskets. For the game, the Storm shot 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 38 percent from the field overall.

BVU finished at 33.9 percent overall and was 9-of-14 at the free-throw line.

The Beavers drop to 1-13 on the year and 0-5 in conference play. The team takes the court again on Saturday, Jan. 13, by hosting 12th-ranked Wartburg College (13-2, 6-0 A-R-C) at 2 p.m. inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.
