STORM LAKE, Iowa (Jan. 10, 2024) - The Buena Vista wrestling team returned home on Wednesday night to host Nebraska Wesleyan in the annual Ballroom Brawl inside of Siebens Forum, but the Prairie Wolves would spoil Senior Night for the Beavers with a 37-10 American Rivers Conference victory.

BVU was unable to field a wrestler in two of the first three weight classes which aided the Prairie Wolves in their 17-0 start. Senior Axel Hernandez put the Beavers on the board at 149 pounds with a commanding 18-0 technical fall to improve to 11-1 on the season. 

Nebraska Wesleyan, however, responded with four straight major decisions to pull away at 33-5 before Jesus Salazar gave BVU its second win of the night with a strong 16-0 technical fall near the end of the match. NWU then closed things out with an 8-0 major decision at 285 pounds.

Buena Vista is now 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the American Rivers Conference. The Beavers continue their schedule on Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Mike Duroe Invite, hosted by Cornell College, in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
